INTRODUCTION TO GEOPHYSICS OF NORTH AMERICA CD-ROM
If you are a first time user of the Geophysics of North America
CD-ROM, it is strongly recommended that you schedule 10 minutes to
run the tutorial provided. This will give you a good overview to
the protocols used throughout the product.
Documentation exists at many levels:
1. The User Manual provides details associated with the
data, the software and the hardware.
2. Online help, accessible from most screens, can be called
by pressing the "F1" key. Instructions will appear on
the monitor which will assist you in selecting the
specific menu item or feature being implemented at the
point help is requested.
3. Details on specific data formats can be found within the
CD-ROM in one of the many files annotated with a ".DOC"
extension. To learn how to view these documentation
files, press "F1" for online help now.

Many organizations supported the compilation of the data used in the
CD-ROM, including government agencies, academia and private industry.
Several of the data sets were originally developed for maps and other
projects. Some of these were part of the Geological Society of America's
centennial celebration -- "Decade of North American Geology" --
and earlier efforts supported by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists
and other organizations. Chairpersons or principal data compilers for
these projects were in organizations such as:
U. S. Geological Survey Geological Survey of Canada
Purdue University Southern Methodist University
Defense Mapping Agency U. S. Naval Oceanographic Office
National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration
National Aeronautics & Space Administration
U. S. Fleet Numerical Oceanographic Center
For details on data compilers, see the chapter "History of Data
Compilation" in the User Manual.
